Boundary Creek Construction recognizes that construction activities — earthworks, vegetation clearing, water crossings, and heavy equipment operations — have inherent potential to affect the natural environment. We accept this responsibility and meet it through proactive environmental management that goes beyond regulatory compliance. Our environmental commitment is integrated into project planning from the earliest stages of pre-construction through to post-construction reclamation and monitoring.
We operate across some of British Columbia's most ecologically sensitive landscapes, including salmon-bearing watercourses, old-growth forest buffers, wetland systems, and wildlife habitat corridors. Managing our work in these environments demands a standard of environmental care that reflects the irreplaceable value of these ecosystems to the communities, Indigenous Nations, and wildlife that depend on them.
We implement sediment and erosion controls on all work sites, maintain secondary containment for all fuel and chemical storage, and require spill response equipment to be accessible on every active work front. Zero unauthorized discharges to watercourses or groundwater is a non-negotiable standard.
All work in or near watercourses is conducted under applicable provincial and federal authorizations with fish exclusion, dewatering, and isolation measures appropriate to the aquatic sensitivity of each site. We respect fish passage and salmon migration windows on all projects in fish-bearing systems.
Clearing limits are established and flagged before equipment enters the field. We minimize disturbance beyond the authorized work area and conduct invasive species inspections on equipment moving between project sites. Post-construction reclamation uses native seed mixes appropriate to the local plant community.
We maximize reuse of excavated materials on-site, incorporate recycled asphalt pavement in road construction where specifications permit, and divert construction waste from landfill through sorting and recycling programs on all major project sites.
We maintain our equipment fleet to manufacturer emission standards, apply dust suppression on unpaved haul roads, and idle-restrict equipment when not actively working. We are actively evaluating zero-emission equipment options for integration into our fleet as technology matures.
Boundary Creek Construction maintains a project-level Environmental Management System (EMS) on all contracts. Each project Environmental Protection Plan (EPP) is developed prior to mobilization and includes site-specific mitigation measures, monitoring requirements, emergency spill response procedures, and environmental inspection schedules. Our Environmental Monitor program ensures that qualified environmental personnel are present during environmentally sensitive construction activities on every project where this is required by permit or client specification.
All Boundary Creek Construction projects operate in full compliance with applicable environmental legislation, including the British Columbia Environmental Management Act, the federal Fisheries Act, the Migratory Birds Convention Act, the Species at Risk Act, and all project-specific environmental assessment conditions and permit requirements. We maintain active relationships with the BC Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy, the BC Ministry of Forests, and Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and take a cooperative approach to environmental regulatory compliance.
This Environmental Policy is reviewed annually by Boundary Creek Construction senior management. We track environmental incidents, near-misses, and regulatory interactions across our project portfolio and use that data to identify systemic improvements to our environmental management programs. We are committed to continuous improvement in our environmental performance and to transparently communicating our progress to clients, regulators, and the communities in which we work.
